Rituals that carry.

A candle, a stone, a song: small gestures with great impact – and how to find them.

Rituals have gained a bad reputation – as something stiff and prescribed. Yet they are the opposite: a ritual is a form that gives the unsayable a place. When words reach their limit, the gesture takes over.

I don’t invent rituals at the drawing board. I find them in people’s stories. A candle for someone who always brought light. A stone from the river where a family spent every summer. A song that suddenly everyone can sing along to.

A ritual gives the unsayable a place.

The beauty of it: a good ritual needs no explanation. It works because everyone in the room understands what is meant. It turns onlookers into participants – and a moment into a memory that stays.
